African Drumming Day Workshop
3 months since the last, I'd like to let you know about the next African
Drumming Day Workshop coming up in Aberdeen...
Saturday 14 November 2009
10am to 4pm - djembe drumming, song and storytelling with an hour of African dance at the end of the day.
Moctar 'Mockoulo' Sawane from Casamance, Senegal will train you in tone and slap techniques, teaching the traditional Mandinka rhythms of his homeland. Whether you want to develop your skills or learn something new, you are guaranteed to benefit from Mockoulo's master tuition.
Zoe Lampkin has trained in Jazz dance to Advanced level and since 2007 in African dance in Senegal and UK with numerous inspirational artists. She will take you through traditional West African dance steps in a routine following the dundun melody and djembe call. Prepare to get lively!

APPEAL
I would like to take this opportunity to ask if anyone in the area might have an old mobile phone they would like to offer to someone in Senegal...? Mockoulo is travelling in a month and gifts like this would be really appreciated. Similarly, if you would like to donate anything else (clothes, pencils, etc.), please let me know.
P.S. Mockoulo is teaching weekly djembe drumming classes at Inchgarth Community Centre on Wednesday evenings. We are hosting a workshop in Abene, Senegal - 26 January to 9 February 2010. If you are interested in either please get in
touch for more information.
